Instructions for Faculty Nominators 2026–2027

The 2026–2027 Hoopes Prize competition will open on Wednesday, February 24, 2027.

Instructors directly supervising extraordinary undergraduate work completed for credit in Harvard College during the 2026–2027 academic year may nominate one student project for the Hoopes Prize by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2027. Please note that this is a firm deadline. It is the nominator’s responsibility to ensure that all components of the nomination form are submitted on time; incomplete nominations will not be considered.

To nominate your student’s project:

1.  Fill out and submit the online Faculty Nomination Form (login required).

Nominated projects should be assigned to the division that corresponds with the student’s concentration. If the student is a joint concentrator, choose the division that best corresponds with the project and explain your reasoning in your project evaluation.  For a list of concentrations by division, please refer to the Harvard College website.

If you encounter difficulty logging in to the Faculty Nomination Form, please contact the Prize Office at prizes at fas.harvard.edu.

2.  Attach and upload the required two-paragraph project evaluation with the Faculty Nomination Form.

One paragraph should describe the project, explaining its broader significance and estimating its likely effects on future work in the field. The other paragraph should describe the conception of the project, the independence and originality displayed by the student, and the extent and nature of any advisor supervision. If the work was produced collaboratively, the student’s role in the work should be specified. The evaluation will not be shared with the nominee.

3.  Notify the student that you have nominated their work.
