Instructions for Student Nominees 2023–2024

Nominations for the 2023–2024 Hoopes Prize competition are no longer being accepted.

Hoopes Prize nominees must submit the Student Application Form by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024. This is a firm deadline. It is the nominee’s responsibility to ensure that all components of the application are submitted on time.

The Prize Office encourages both instructors and students to start the application process early.

To complete the student nominee portion of the application process:

1.  Fill out and submit the online Student Application Form (login required).

2.  Write the required Hoopes Prize project abstract.

Nominees are asked to write a 150- to 200-word abstract of their project for the non-specialist reader. The abstract, which must be the nominee’s own work, should describe the goals of the project, contextualize it within the broader parameters of its discipline, and highlight its importance. This abstract must be a new document written specifically for the Hoopes Prize.

3.  Attach and upload the project.

Nominees submit their written projects electronically with the Student Application Form. For bookbinding purposes, written projects should have at least one-inch margins. Students submitting projects that are not in written form, or that have non-written components, should contact the Prize Office at prizes at fas.harvard.edu as soon as possible for further instructions.

Important information abou the Hoopes Prizes can be found at Frequently Asked Questions (click the link). Instructors and students are encouraged to read all the questions and answers.

Nominees: Do not wait until the deadline to submit your materials. If you encounter a problem, you will need time to resolve it. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
