Instructions for Faculty Nominators 2020–2021

The deadline for faculty nominations was 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Instructors directly supervising extraordinary undergraduate work completed for credit in Harvard College during the 2020–2021 academic year may nominate one student project for the Hoopes Prize by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Please note that this is a firm deadline. It is the nominator’s responsibility to ensure that all components of the nomination form are submitted on time; incomplete nominations will not be considered.

This year, the deadline for student submissions falls on a Wellness Day. The Prize Office encourages both nominators and nominees to start the application process early.

To nominate a student project:

1.  Fill out and submit the online Faculty Nomination Form (login required).

If you encounter difficulty logging in to the Faculty Nomination Form, please contact the Prize Office at prizes at fas.harvard.edu.

2.  Attach and upload the required two-paragraph project evaluation with the Faculty Nomination Form.

One paragraph should describe the project, explaining its broader significance and estimating its likely effects on future work in the field. The other paragraph should describe the conception of the project, the independence and originality displayed by the student, and the extent and nature of any advisor supervision. If the work was produced collaboratively, the student’s role in the work should be specified. The evaluation will not be shared with the nominee.

3.  Notify the student of the nomination so that he or she can complete his or her part of the application process by the prize deadline.

Important information can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions about the Hoopes Prize (click the link). Nominators and nominees are encouraged to read all the questions and answers.
